A thermocouple consist of two different metals which are welded together at one end. By the so-called Seeback effect on a temperature difference along the conductors a voltage is generated, which serves as a measurement signal.

Depending on the application thermocouples are manufactured in different designs. Highly compressed mineral insulated thermocouples are used for extremely harsh environments up to +1200°C. Simple thermocouples have a fast response time with a measurement range up to +400°C.
