Flange immersion heaters are constructed of hairpin bent tubular heater elements brazed or welded into ANSI standard flanges or plate flanges of various shapes and sizes.
ANSI flange heaters are typically used for large volume, high power and/or higher pressure applications. Plate flange heaters are typically custom designed for use in smaller pieces of equipment such as boilers and chillers.
Immersion heaters can be used in different applications. In order to meet the heating requirements of a specific application and have a safe operation in the environment within which a heater operates several factors should be taken into consideration in the design of Screw plug or flanged immersion heaters. The following are a number of criteria that should be considered:
1. The pressure rating and the material of a flange/ screw plug
2. The sheath material of the tubular elements.
3. Watt density, flow velocity, outlet temperature.
4. Liquid level, to ensure that the immersion heater’s heating zone immersed in the liquid.
